This is the journey I am currently on. Making my dreams happen... and I have quite a few dreams, which are as big as my imagination!
Today it was about a play I've written The Queen Bee. Above it says step one - but this is probably more like step five or six, because the story has been told and honed to storytelling audiences, the play drafted, support gained from Replay Theatre and the Arts Council NI. However, today still felt like a big first step on the road to making it a reality.
Because today I met one-to-one with Janice Kernoghan to discuss my mentorship and the development of The Queen Bee.
I won't bore you with all the details. But it was an inspiring and exciting meeting. For the first time that journey from where I am (a writer with a story and an idea for inclusive theatre) to where I want to be (a writer with a play on tour) started to become clear.
Success is about taking small steps towards the goal you want to reach. Keeping in mind the bigger picture, but applying yourself to each little, manageable steps one at a time (at least that's what I've been told and tell the kids I teach).
To be honest all we did was talk and identify steps. But by doing so, we created something solid for me to follow and follow them I will...
Never underestimate the power of support and guidance in pursuing your dreams. Today's meeting helped me focus, find courage and confidence and start to think practically about things that can easily stay abstract, if you let them.
I have a lot to do before our next meeting, reading, seeing theatre, breaking down my story and brainstorming creative ideas.
All of which are going to be fun, informative and useful. Today's step is the first in a long journey, I am very much looking forward to taking.
